Heyrex electronic products are tested for radio emissions to these standards:
- AS NZS 4268 - Radio equipment and systems - Short range devices - Limits and methods of measurement
- USA Federal Communications Commission CFR Title 47 Part 15
The FCC requires that our devices be evaluated for "Specific Absorption Rate" per CFR 47, Section 1.1307(b)(1). This is the amount of radio energy absorbed by the body. Our devices are evaluated under the criteria where the people being exposed may not be aware of the device and therefore unable to change their proximity.
The conclusions of this evaluation are that the receiver unit should be placed at least 20 centimeters from where people normally frequent. The energy output of the Heyrex monitor was found to be so low that evaluation is not required.
To further clarify on how much energy is emitted: Our Heyrex monitor can operate for up to 2 years on a single watch battery. There is not sufficient energy available to cause a hazard.

Range
The range of the Heyrex monitoring system varies depending on the conditions it is operating in. The best performance we have seen under ideal conditions is 60 meters from the receiver. This was in open air with line of sight between the sensor capsule and receiver.
Under real world conditions the useful range will be less than this. Things like wire mesh, corrugated iron, concrete, hardwood and in some cases tinted windows can all have an impact.
Our recommended setup is as follows:
For pets and animals which come indoors:
- The receiver should be located in a room where the animal will spend some time every day such as a living room, sleeping or feeding area.
- Ideally the animal will be in this area for at least 30 minutes per day.
For outdoor animals:
- The receiver should be installed near the run or kennels so that there is line of sight to where the animals will spend a portion of their day.
- Ideally the receiver will be where the animals sleep.
- Where full wire mesh or metal cladding is used the receiver should be as close as practical and no further than 10 to 15 meters.
- Each animal should be within range for 30 minutes per day. In the case multiple animals allow more time. For this reason we recommend placing the receiver where they will sleep.
